Women on a Mission
The Women On A Mission ministry at MSPC began as the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Ghormley Meadows Family Camp in 2009. Since then we have given over 400 prayer shawls and fleece tied blankets away. Recipients include: babies in our church, expectant mothers, those facing medical procedures, and several people who have been grieving. They are given a card expressing our prayers of love and hope for them, and to bring them blessings of comfort, gifts of warmth, and the knowledge that they are wrapped in love.
In the community, prayer shawls and blankets have been given to residents at Richland Gardens, Guardian Angels Homes, Richland Rehabilitation Center, Eagle Assisted Living, and Richland and Kennewick Life Care Centers. A recipient at Richland Life Care we visited wanted us to pray for her and then donated all her yarn because she could no longer crochet herself.
In addition to shawls and blankets we have knitted baby sweaters that were included in disaster kits that were distributed by the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Project.
In 2015 , as the group branched out into additional mission ministries, the participants made a decision to re brand the group as Women On A Mission. During the bi monthly meetings the group explores where we can be of service in our community and our congregation, plans for those activities and coordinates mission activities with other groups in our congregation. Everyone is welcome to attend the group meetings and participate in mission projects!
