The role of Session is wide and varied in our church. It governs the day-to-day and long term activities of our church. At MSPC, Session is made up of the Pastor and elected Elders who have been called to facilitate the development, growth, and stewardship of our congregation. In accordance with the Presbyterian tradition, the Session is tasked with: providing opportunities for evangelism to be learned and practiced by the church, receiving members into the church, maintaining the church rolls, provide worship, including preaching of the Word and sharing of the Sacraments, provide fellowship and support, manage annual budgeting of the finances, leading the congregation in continual discovery and growth, ordain and welcome new elders and deacons, oversee the administration of the facilities and paid staff, and maintain contact with the higher governing bodies of the Presbyterian church.
The Session at MSPC is responsible for the governance of our church’s beliefs, teachings, spiritual growth, personnel, finances, and faith. It is the Session that endorses new ministries, approves budget spending, and determines appropriate uses of our church facilities. As a new Ministry structure is implemented within our church, Session will have the responsibility of determining communication links and appointing members to these positions.
